Journey Recorder

Journey Recorder films your drive while it tracks your route on a map. Afterwards, you replay the video and the journey in sync, with speed and time shown on screen and a summary of your trip. Your journeys stay on your phone.

Journey Recorder: Drive Video

Some journeys are worth keeping: a scenic road trip, a new commute, a day out. Journey Recorder records the video and the route together, so you can relive the drive exactly as it happened.

Video and route, in sync
Record with your phone’s camera while the app logs your GPS route. Video and route share the same clock, so when you replay a journey, the map marker follows the video moment by moment. Replay at 0.5x, 1x, 1.5x or 2x.

Speed and time on screen
A speed and time card appears over your journey, in km/h or mph (the default is mph in the US and UK, km/h elsewhere). The speed figure is smoothed on purpose and can lag a few seconds behind your real speed, so it is for review, not a live speedometer. The card is drawn by the app and is not saved into the video file.

A summary of every drive
After each journey, see:

• Top speed and average speed
• Moving time and stopped time
• Your route on the map
• A speed graph for the whole trip
• Possible hard-braking moments, shown after a sharp slowdown. Tap one and the video jumps to that point.

Photo at this place
Take a photo while you record. It is stored on the route and opens again when you replay the journey.

Keep what matters
Turn on auto-delete to clear old journeys and save space. Mark a journey as Keep and it is never removed.

Your trip history
All your journeys are listed on the home screen, ready to replay whenever you like.

How it works

1. Tap Record, then Start journey, and allow location, camera and microphone when asked.
2. Drive, walk or ride. The screen stays on while you record.
3. Tap Stop, name your journey and tap Save.
4. Open it from Home to replay the video and the map together, or open Summary for your stats.

Settings you can change

• Record voice: on by default. Turn it off for silent video.
• Battery saver: lowers video resolution and GPS update rate.
• Recording camera: automatic (back camera first, then front if needed).
• Speed and time overlay and speed unit.
• Auto-delete old journeys: off by default.

Changes apply to your next recording.

Private by design
No account, no sign-in, no in-app purchases. Your videos, routes and journeys stay on your phone, and nothing is uploaded unless you tap Share. The map loads OpenStreetMap tiles from the internet, so you need a connection to see the map.

Share a journey
Share a journey as a .jmovie file or a ZIP. It opens in another copy of Journey Recorder.

Good to know

• Journey Recorder records while the app is open on screen. If you lock your phone or leave the app on iOS, recording stops and your journey is saved.
• A short walk may show no hard-braking events, as these need a sharp GPS slowdown.
• Journey Recorder needs a camera and GPS, so the iOS Simulator can’t run the main flow. Use a real iPhone.

Two things to check

• Android wording: the “locking the phone” line comes from your iOS notes. Please confirm that Android doesn’t behave differently, or I can split these into separate Android and iOS bullets.
• Simulator line: this is for developers. You can delete it from the public page if you prefer, since a normal user won’t ask.
